Migrant Workers Enterprise Project
Lincolnshire seems to have a significant pool of migrants whose current skills are under-utilised due to difficulties for example with recognition of their education and skills, accessing relevant information and social exclusion. The command of English forms another important barrier to their integration and utilisation of skills.
Self-employment can give them an opportunity to create a more suitable working environment while at the same time creating more enterprising communities in the area. Currently self-employed migrants are often to be found in the construction sector, while in other sectors the level of migrant business start-ups is low.
The migrant workers enterprise project is researching barriers to starting up a business for migrant entrepreneurs and aims to provide recommendations to business support providers and other service providers engaged with this group.
This project is now complete and you can read the results here.
