Welland Graduate Link Forges Ahead

A new programme devised to assist companies not benefiting from a city centre location and the subsidies that come with that is proving extremely successful. Welland SSP have funded Graduate Link, run by Success Matrix, which provides a free graduate recruitment scheme, bringing companies and graduate talent together. Success Matrix have a proven track record of delivering graduate recruitment programmes, and deliver a variety of business support services based around HR and training. With offices currently in Leicester and Lincoln they have the largest database of recent graduates in the region.

Rural Roadshows

A number of roadshows have been touring rural areas over the summer. So far open days have been held in Oakham, Melton Mowbray, Market Harborough and Thrapston, where graduates can receive advice on how to go about finding local employment and for businesses on how to attract the managers of the future. Vicki Baddelely, project co-ordinator from Success Matrix’s Leicestershire office, said, “We have been very pleased with the response we’ve had from both the roadshows and the free recruitment service. This is all about doing something that benefits both graduates and local companies. In more rural areas it can be difficult to know where to go to tap into local resource.”

Local Company Interviews

One local company who visited Graduate Link’s Melton Roadshow to do first round interviews was Dynamic Merchandise. Based in Borough-on-the-Hill, they deal with merchandising products for industry giants such as Coca Cola and Heineken. Phil Harvey, Sales and Marketing Director said “We have found this programme very useful. There are definitely people that we would not otherwise have seen. This programme is a great means for local businesses to access local talent.”

Philippa Heathcote graduated with a 2:1 in Marketing from De Montfort University and had a first interview with Dynamic Merchandise, and subsequently a final interview and offer for the position of Project Co-ordinator. She said “This scheme has opened new avenues for me. It made it much easier for me to get the interview, giving me more confidence. It was good to talk to the Success Matrix team and get support all the way through”

In addition to the vacancy filled at Dynamic Merchandise, graduate opportunities that have been filled include a Web Developer, Account Manager and CAD Technician.
